Beyond a certain point, the gravitational pull of a black hole is so strong that not even light can escape it. And in a process dubbed “spaghettification,” anything that gets too close—be it a star, planet, or spacecraft—will be stretched and squished like putty. And now, researchers have revealed that they have discovered the largest star ever observed being torn apart by a black hole. The monster accused of committing this atrocity seems to have thrown its stellar victim’s insides out into space.
